Sono intervenuti nel pomeriggio di oggi dalla sala stampa del PalaTrieste il GM della Pallacanestro Trieste Michael Arcieri e coach Jamion Christian. E’ stata l’occasione per presentare il nuovo head coach alla stampa locale, che ha risposto alle domande dei giornalisti, parlando della sua filosofia di gioco e dei suoi primi giorni con la squadra. A introdurre il coach, Mike Arcieri, che ha fatto il punto su questo inizio di stagione:
“Sono stato molto fortunato a conoscere Jamion, in occasione di una puntata del suo podcast, circa 8 mesi fa. Di lui mi ha colpito molto la sua filosofia, ma ancor più il suo lato umano: la capacità di entrare in empatia con le persone, di metterle al primo posto non solo dentro al campo da gioco. Quando ho accettato questo incarico è stata la prima persona a cui ho pensato per guidare questo team. Empatia, umiltà e passione per la pallacanestro, questi i suoi valori, oltre a una preparazione tecnica fuori dal comune. Per me e CSG sono stati i fattori della scelta. Riuscire a gestire la squadra seguendo questi pilastri, farà in modo che poi questa positività si converta anche nei risultati in campo. Sono passati solo pochi giorni dall’inizio della preparazione ma già si vedono dei risultati, nei sorrisi in campo, nella condivisione tra i ragazzi. Sentiamo già un ottima chimica, che tendenzialmente è difficile trovare dopo così poco tempo”.
“Sono molto contento di essere qui – le parole di coach Christian – e sento la responsabilità del ruolo in questo posto carico di storia. Sento la responsabilità di essere il leader di questi giocatori e sono pronto a questa sfida. Adoro questo gruppo di giocatori e quanto loro in primis vogliano bene ai loro tifosi. Sono tutti pronti a questa sfida, cosa che ci darà soddisfazione lungo il percorso. Per noi tutti si tratta di una grande opportunità di crescita, soprattutto nell’integrare diverse idee, stili di gioco, approcci al lavoro. Sono contento perché dopo soli pochi giorni di allenamento anche i ragazzi stanno facendo proprie queste idee, si vede già una chimica tra di loro. La A2 è un campionato estremamente difficile, conterà la nostra capacità di resilienza e di affrontare insieme le difficoltà per uscirne più forti, di arrivare agli appuntamenti importanti con una condizione fisica e tecnica in crescita. La squadra lo ha capito, sa perfettamente che siamo tutti coinvolti in questo processo. Lavoreremo singolarmente con i giocatori affinché per ognuno di loro possiamo capire come portarlo al massimo della condizione. Consiglio a tutti i nostri tifosi di abbonarsi perché sono sicuro che quest’anno ci sarà da divertirsi”.
In merito all’arrivo di Justin Reyes e al recupero dell’infortunio che lo ha colpito ormai 8 mesi fa Arcieri ha dichiarato:
“Reyes è un giocatore che può fare la differenza. Con molti punti nelle mani e capace di coprire molti ruoli e difendere praticamente su chiunque. Quando abbiamo deciso che avrebbe potuto far parte della Pallacanestro Trieste ho portato avanti una lunga due diligence, con molti professionisti medici statunitensi e italiani per avere rassicurazioni in merito alla sua salute. Ho parlato con il giocatore praticamente ogni 2 giorni per tutta l’estate per assicurarmi stesse facendo il suo percorso al meglio. Adesso siamo in contatto con lo staff di Porto Rico. La situazione è sotto controllo e, se avete visto Justin in azione in nazionale, si può dire che abbia completamente recuperato”.
Il coach ha poi approfondito la sua filosofia di gioco e quello che sarà il primo appuntamento ufficiale, domani, martedì 22 agosto, con BYU:
“Il nostro sistema di gioco sarà un mix della mia esperienza statunitense e quella europea che ho avuto modo di studiare e di condividere con i miei assistenti. Un gioco veloce, che prevedrà molti tiri da 3 punti, e che a livello difensivo si baserà sul rendere difficile agli avversari entrare nel pitturato. Abbiamo 10 giocatori in grado di ruotare tutti per dare il loro contributo alla squadra.
Sono emozionato per la prima uscita di domani. Non vedo l’ora di vedere come si comporteranno i ragazzi sul campo, liberi di esprimersi dopo solo pochi giorni di concetti che abbiamo cercato di passare loro. Ci saranno molti turnover, fa parte del processo. Mettiamo in conto anche degli errori, come è logico in questo momento della stagione. Quello che però sarà più prezioso sarà allenarli dopo il match, con i primi dati a disposizione. Quando qualcuno ha un gran rispetto per una cosa, nel mio caso per il basket, si ha anche una gran voglia di imparare dalle persone che gli stanno intorno”.

From the press room of PalaTrieste this afternoon, Pallacanestro Trieste’s GM Michael Arcieri and Coach Jamion Christian addressed the media. It was an occasion to introduce the new head coach to the local press, who fielded questions from journalists, discussing his game philosophy and his initial days with the team. Mike Arcieri, who introduced the coach, spoke about the season’s start:
“I was fortunate to get to know Jamion about 8 months ago during an episode of his podcast. What struck me was not only his basketball philosophy but also his human side: the ability to empathize with people, to prioritize them not just on the court. When I accepted this role, he was the first person I thought of to lead this team. Empathy, humility, and a passion for basketball—these are his values, along with exceptional technical preparation. These were the factors for me and CSG in making the choice. Managing the team according to these pillars will ensure that this positivity translates into results on the court. It’s only been a few days since the start of training, but we’re already seeing results in the smiles on the court, in the camaraderie among the players. We can already feel great chemistry, which is usually hard to find after such a short time.”
“I’m very excited to be here,” said Coach Christian, “and I feel the weight of the role in this historically significant place. I feel the responsibility of leading these players and I’m ready for this challenge. I love this group of players and how much they, first and foremost, care about their fans. They’re all ready for this challenge, which will bring us satisfaction along the way. This is a big growth opportunity for all of us, especially in integrating different ideas, playing styles, and work approaches. I’m pleased because after just a few days of training, the players are already making these ideas their own; you can already see chemistry among them. The A2 league is extremely tough; our resilience and ability to face difficulties together will count as we emerge stronger, with our physical and technical condition improving for the crucial moments. The team understands this, knowing that we’re all part of this process. We’ll work individually with the players to understand how to bring out their best. I advise all our fans to subscribe because I’m sure this year will be exciting.”
Regarding the arrival of Justin Reyes and his recovery from an injury that struck him 8 months ago, Arcieri stated:
“Reyes is a player who can make a difference. He’s got a lot of points in his hands and can cover many roles while practically defending anyone. When we decided he could be a part of Pallacanestro Trieste, I conducted thorough due diligence, consulting numerous medical professionals from both the US and Italy to ensure his health. I practically spoke to the player every two days throughout the summer to make sure he was on the right path. Now we’re in contact with the staff in Puerto Rico. The situation is under control, and if you’ve seen Justin in action on the national team, you can say he’s fully recovered.”
The coach then delved into his game philosophy and the upcoming official debut, tomorrow, Tuesday, August 22, against BYU:
“Our game system will be a blend of my American experience and the European insights I’ve had the chance to study and share with my assistants. It’s a fast-paced game that will involve a lot of three-point shots, and on defense, we’ll focus on making it tough for opponents to penetrate the paint. We have 10 players who can rotate in and contribute to the team. I’m excited for tomorrow’s first outing. I can’t wait to see how the players perform on the court, expressing themselves after just a few days of concepts we’ve tried to convey. There will be turnovers; it’s part of the process. We’re expecting mistakes as well, as is logical at this stage of the season. However, what will be most valuable is coaching them after the match, armed with the initial data. When someone holds great respect for something, in my case, basketball, there’s also a strong desire to learn from the people around you.”
