Trieste, 28 agosto 2023 – È in programma domani, martedì 29 agosto, la sfida con i Kapfenberg Bulls. L’amichevole con il team austriaco sarà l’incontro d’esordio della 20ª edizione della Basketball Summer League, organizzata dall’Associazione Che Spettacolo. Palla a due alle 20 al PalaPaliaga di Monfalcone.
Coach Jamion Christian ha presentato il match, facendo anche il punto sull’andamento della preseason, che ha già visto i biancorossi impegnati nel match amichevole con Brigham Young. Di seguito le sue parole.
È da poco iniziata la preparazione, che ha visto la tua squadra già impegnata nell’amichevole con Brigham Young lo scorso 22 agosto al PalaTrieste: come stanno andando questi primi giorni di preparazione alla stagione 2023/2024?
“Questi primi giorni sono stati davvero entusiasmanti, sia a livello personale che a livello di squadra con i ragazzi e lo staff. Essere qui in Italia per me è un’esperienza nuova e sto cercando di viverla al massimo. La partita con BYU è stata importante per capire a che livello ci troviamo oggi, comprendere gli errori commessi e dove migliorare. Ma anche renderci conto di ciò che invece abbiamo fatto bene”.
Domani vi aspetta un’altra amichevole, questa volta con Kapfenberg, all’interno del circuito BSL che è un circuito storico del nord est italiano. Che cosa ti aspetti di vedere rispetto al primo match?
“Ciò che mi aspetto di vedere dai ragazzi in campo è lo spirito di squadra, il cercarsi reciprocamente e acquisire una certa rapiditià nel gioco. Sarà una gara impegnativa dal punto di vista fisico e dovremo mettere in campo le nostre abilità. Vogliamo continuare a crescere giorno dopo giorno e costruire una mentalità di gioco solida. Non vedo l’ora di scendere in campo con i ragazzi”.
Avrete la possibilità di confrontarvi con un team austriaco: quanto è importante, in preseason, misurarsi anche contro avversari di “cultura cestistica” differente?
“È importante misurarsi con squadre forti e competitive, soprattutto quando provengono da altri campionati. Confrontarsi con altre culture cestistiche è un valore aggiunto, un’opportunità per crescere, alzare il livello di competitività e, come dicevo prima, vedere a che punto siamo nella nostra preparazione”.
Che cosa ti aspetti da questa stagione cestistica per Trieste?
“Dobbiamo pensare giorno per giorno, la nostra preparazione è iniziata da troppo poco tempo per dire cosa ci aspettiamo. Dobbiamo però essere consapevoli che siamo un’ottima squadra, con giocatori di livello, ognuno nel suo percorso di carriera. Ciò a cui tengo molto è trasmettere alla squadra lo spirito di questa città, fatta di persone che lavorano duro e che non mancano di far sentire il proprio calore e il proprio supporto. Sono rimasto molto colpito dall’atmosfera del PalaTrieste e dalla passione che respira in città per questo sport e questi colori. Dovrà essere il nostro valore aggiunto per occupare posizioni di classifica importanti”.

Trieste, August 28, 2023 – The match against the Kapfenberg Bulls is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 29. The friendly match with the Austrian team will be the opening encounter of the 20th edition of the Basketball Summer League, organized by the Che Spettacolo Association. Tip-off is at 8:00 PM at the PalaPaliaga in Monfalcone.
Coach Jamion Christian introduced the match, also providing an update on the preseason progress, which has already seen the “Biancorossi” engaged in a friendly match with Brigham Young. Here are his words:
The preparation has recently begun, and your team has already been engaged in the friendly match with Brigham Young on August 22nd at PalaTrieste. How are these first days of preparation for the 2023/2024 season going?
“These first few days have been truly exciting, both on a personal level and as a team with the guys and the staff. Being here in Italy is a new experience for me, and I’m trying to make the most of it. The match with BYU was important to understand where we stand today, recognize the mistakes made, and identify areas for improvement. It also allowed us to see what we’ve done well”.
Tomorrow you have another friendly, this time against Kapfenberg, within the historic BSL circuit of northeastern Italy. What do you expect to see compared to the first match?
“What I expect to see from the players on the field is a sense of teamwork, mutual support, and an acquisition of speed in the game. It will be a physically demanding match, and we’ll need to bring our skills onto the field. We want to keep growing day by day and build a strong game mentality. I can’t wait to step onto the field with the guys”.
You’ll have the opportunity to compete against an Austrian team. How important is it, during the preseason, to measure yourself against opponents with a different “basketball culture”?
“It’s important to compete with strong and competitive teams, especially when they come from different leagues. Confronting different basketball cultures adds value; it’s an opportunity to grow, raise the level of competitiveness, and, as I mentioned before, see where we stand in our preparation”.
What do you expect from this basketball season for Trieste?
“We need to take it day by day; our preparation has just begun, so it’s too early to say what we expect. However, we must be aware that we are a great team with skilled players, each on their career journey. What I want to instill in the team is the spirit of this city, made up of hardworking people who don’t hesitate to show their warmth and support. I’ve been deeply impressed by the atmosphere of PalaTrieste and the passion that the city exudes for this sport and these colors. It should be our added value in aiming for significant positions in the rankings”.
