Il popolo biancorosso risponde presente già alla prima uscita stagionale della squadra di coach Jamion Christian, che si presenta sul parquet del PalaTrieste di fronte a 1350 tifosi e una Curva Nord che fin dai primi minuti fa sentire forte la sua voce.
Di fronte, un team che seppur giovane promette battaglia, presentandosi come una delle Big12 della NCAA Division 1.
I biancorossi scendono in campo con Ruzzier, Brooks, Deangeli, Ferrero e Candussi. Ad aprire le danze BYU con una tripla di Robinson; prova a rispondere Giancarlo Ferrero non trovando però i tre punti dall’angolo. Gli ospiti allungano con il numero 0 Waterman che trova nuovamente i 3 punti su uno scarico. Jackson Robinson trova ancora 2 punti dalla media portando i suoi sull’8 a 0. Con 7 minuti ancora sul cronometro fa il suo esordio Ariel Filloy, che prende il posto di Eli Brooks. I biancorossi faticano a trovare la via del canestro nei primi minuti, ma costringono i Cougars a diversi falli nel pitturato. BYU non sembra voler andare per il sottile e allunga fino a un 12 – 0 di parziale. A rompere il ghiaccio per i suoi Lodo Deangeli che conquista due tiri liberi insaccandone 1/2. Eli Brooks trova i primi due punti in penetrazione portando il parziale sul 18 a 3 per gli statunitensi.
A due minuti dalla fine della prima frazione di gioco si sblocca Michele Ruzzier che con 5 punti di fila accorcia il divario tra le due squadre sul 20 a 8 per gli ospiti. I biancorossi poi approfittando del bonus vanno in lunetta con Candussi che va a segno con entrambi i liberi, seguito a ruota da Ferrero, che porta a meno 8 la sua squadra poco prima della fine del primo quarto, che si chiuderà 21 a 12.
I biancorossi tornano in campo per i secondi dieci minuti con il piglio giusto e accorciano prima con il solito Ruzzier e poi con Ferrero, ma BYU non ci sta e prima con il Stewart e poi con Robinson da 3 ritrovano lo swing dei primi minuti riportando il gap tra le due squadre a 8 punti. Gli risponde Ariel Filloy che trova due bombe di fila, ma il dialogo tra i due continua, mantenendo invariato il divario tra le due squadre. Candussi, che fa valere chili e centimetri, torna in lunetta dove trova altri 2 punti, seguiti poi da una tripla che mantiene in partita i biancorossi. Un Candussi indiavolato continua a guidare i suoi riportandoli a sole 3 lunghezze di distanza dagli americani. Gli ospiti ritoccano il punteggio negli ultimi secondi di gioco, si va al riposo lungo sul 46 a 41.
BYU riprende nel terzo quarto da dove aveva finito, andando a segno subito da 3 con Hall seguito dal compagno di squadra Robinson che riporta a 12 i punti tra le due squadre. Filloy prova a risvegliare i suoi con due punti dalla media, ma i Cougars continuano a colpire forte dall’arco e il punteggio è di 53 a 69 a favore degli americani con ancora un quarto da giocare.
La partita si chiude nell’ultimo quarto tra gli applausi per entrambe le parti di un pubblico calorosissimo e mai così numeroso in un’amichevole estiva. Coach Christian concede molti minuti nell’ultima frazione di gioco al quartetto di giovani aggregati alla prima squadra, in grado di mettersi in mostra davanti al 1350 del PalaTrieste. Il punteggio finale è di 73 a 84 a favore dei Cougars, con una Pallacanestro Trieste ancora impegnata nei primi giorni della preparazione atletica, che tornerà in campo il prossimo 29 agosto a Monfalcone per il secondo appuntamento estivo con la formazione dei Kapfenberg Bulls.

The “Biancorossi” fanbase appears in force at the team’s first game of the season under Coach Jamion Christian. They take to the court at PalaTrieste Arena, facing off against a crowd of 1350 supporters and a vocal North Curve from the get-go.
On the opposing side, a young team that promises a tough fight, presenting itself as one of the Big12 teams from NCAA Division 1.
The“Biancorossi” team takes the court with Ruzzier, Brooks, Deangeli, Ferrero, and Candussi. BYU gets the game underway with a three-pointer from Robinson; Giancarlo Ferrero attempts to respond, but he misses the corner shot. The visitors extend their lead with Waterman, number 0, nailing another three-pointer off a pass. Jackson Robinson adds another 2 points from mid-range, taking their score to 8-0. With 7 minutes left on the clock, Ariel Filloy makes his debut, substituting in for Eli Brooks. The “Biancorossi” team struggles to find the basket in the opening minutes but forces several fouls from the Cougars in the paint. BYU doesn’t hold back, extending their lead to a 12-0 partial score. Lodo Deangeli breaks the ice for the home team, sinking one of two free throws. Eli Brooks scores his first two points with a drive, making it 18-3 in favor of the Americans.
Two minutes before the end of the first quarter, Michele Ruzzier gets on the board with 5 consecutive points, narrowing the gap to 20-8 for the visitors. Taking advantage of bonus free throws, the “Biancorossi” team goes to the line with Candussi sinking both, followed by Ferrero, bringing his team within 8 points just before the end of the first quarter, which concludes 21-12.
The “Biancorossi” team steps onto the court for the second quarter with renewed determination, closing the gap first with Ruzzier and then with Ferrero. However, BYU isn’t backing down. First with Stewart and then with a 3-pointer from Robinson, they regain the momentum of the opening minutes, restoring an 8-point lead. Ariel Filloy responds with two consecutive 3-pointers, but the back-and-forth continues, maintaining the gap between the two teams. Candussi, leveraging his size and strength, returns to the line, adding 2 more points, followed by a three-pointer that keeps the “Biancorossi” team in the game. An unstoppable Candussi leads the charge, bringing his team within 3 points of the Americans. The visitors adjust the score in the final seconds, and the halftime score stands at 46-41.
BYU picks up right where they left off in the third quarter, hitting a 3-pointer with Hall followed by a teammate, Robinson, bringing the lead to 12 points. Filloy tries to rally his team with two mid-range points, but the Cougars continue to score from beyond the arc, and the score sits at 69-53 in favor of the Americans, with one quarter left to play.
The match concludes in the last quarter amidst applause from both sides of a passionate crowd, the largest ever seen at a summer friendly. Coach Christian grants significant minutes to the quartet of young players integrated into the first team in the final quarter, allowing them to showcase their talents in front of the 1350-strong crowd at PalaTrieste. The final score is 84-73 in favor of the Cougars, with Pallacanestro Trieste still in the early days of their athletic preparation. They will return to the court on August 29th in Monfalcone for their second summer match against the Kapfenberg Bulls.
