Va alla Pallacanestro Trieste il primo dei derby di questa lunga stagione. Cividale resiste, trascinata da un pubblico di grande impatto, si fa sotto nell’ultimo quarto con una serie di insidiose triple, ma un grande Filloy (premiato come MVP), un determinato Brooks e un Candussi da incorniciare (a lui il premio di miglior realizzatore) portano Trieste a una importante vittoria.
Trieste parte con lo stesso quintetto base schierato con Forlì: Brooks, Filloy, Deangeli, Ferrero, Candussi. Brooks sembra non essere mai uscito dal campo con Forlì e apre subito le danze con due punti. La tripla di Cividale fa capire ai biancorossi che il match è tutto da giocare, Filloy e Candussi con un tripla non si mostrano intimoriti (3-7). Cividale accorcia con una tripla, Trieste allunga con Brooks fino al più sei (6-12) a metà del primo quarto. Cividale prova a riprendere il match ma Trieste tiene il vantaggio e arriva a 13-19. Candussi mette a segno da tre e regala entusiasmo al nutrito gruppo di tifosi biancorossi in tribuna. Filloy sulla sirena mette a segno la sua consueta tripla e permette ai suoi di chiudere il primo quarto a più undici (13-24).
Secondo quarto che si apre con Candussi sottocanestro e poco dopo con un tiro dall’arco. Il 13 biancorosso fa uno su due dalla lunetta e Trieste va sul 13-30. Brooks mette a segno due punti, Furin accorcia. Il match vive uno stallo realizzativo a metà tempo, con entrambe le squadre che fanno fatica a trovare il canestro vincente. Rota sblocca la situazione con una tripla e Cividale si rivitalizza. Candussi si ripresenta dalla lunetta e questa volta è due su due. Cividale si riaffaccia in attacco e Rota mette a segno due liberi. Ci pensa Filloy a spegnere l’entusiasmo avversario con due punti. Ancora lunetta per Cividale: Furin ne mette a segno però solo uno. Candussi fa invece due su due e Trieste si avvicina all’intervallo in vantaggio. La tripla di Balladino riaccende Cividale ma Brooks risponde immediatamente sottocanestro. Ferrero si unisce al giro dalla lunetta e fa tre su tre. Tripla di Ferrari per le Eagles che non vogliono mollare e infatti è ancora Balladino dai 6,75 a riaccendere nuovamente il match. Cividale accorcia ancora e si va all’intervallo sul 35-46 per Trieste.
È ancora Candussi ad aprire il tempo. Marangon dalla lunetta fa due su due per i suoi. Deangeli risponde con tre punti. Vildera dalla lunetta fa uno su due, così come Rota per Cividale. Vildera mette a segno altri due punti e Marangon risponde con una tripla. Candussi va ancora a segno (due punti) ma Cividale si galvanizza con la tripla di Mani. Ferrero rimette la tripla dalla parte di Trieste e ripristina le distanze. Dell’Agnello fa uno su due dalla lunetta, Brooks allunga con una tripla. Miani risponde sottocanestro e il match si vivacizza. A poco più di tre minuti dal termine del tempo Trieste è avanti 52-66. Miani dalla lunetta accorcia lo svantaggio di due punti. Il 4 di Cividale si ripete con una tripla che porta i suoi a meno nove. Filloy con due punti rimette le distanze, ma Miani è caldo e mette a segno un’altra tripla. Candussi dalla lunetta permette ai suoi di respirare. Il terzo quarto termina 61-70 per Trieste.
Ultimo quarto che si apre ancora Miani a segno. Il 4 di Cividale si ripete con una tripla che riporta i suoi in piena corsa. Redivo porta Cividale davvero vicino con un tempo praticamente ancora tutto da giocare, fino al sorpasso (71-70). Candussi dalla lunetta fa uno su due e Trieste si porta a meno uno. Ferrero porta avanti i suoi sotto canestro, Miani rimette le distanze e dalla lunetta allunga di un ulteriore punto. Brooks mette a segno due punti e Trieste cerca di rimanere in scia. Filloy con una tripla rimette il risultato in discussione a poco più di quattro minuti dal termine ripetendosi poco dopo. Finale davvero combattuto fra le due squadre e risultato in equilibrio. Brooks mette a segno due punti dalla lunetta e dà margine ai suoi. Dell’Agnello però non ci sta: Cividale torna a meno uno. Il più quattro biancorosso arriva grazie alla tripla di Candussi che con i suoi 34 punti totali regala il Memorial ai ragazzi di coach Christian. Risultato finale 86-90 per Trieste e grande festa sugli spalti di fede triestina.
Il primo derby stagionale chiude una settimana intensa di lavoro per coach Christian e il suo staff, iniziata con la vittoriosa amichevole di Monfalcone di martedì contro i Kapfenberg Bulls. Appuntamenti di rodaggio di questa preseason per arrivare al meglio alle sfide ufficiali di Supercoppa, che riserverà all’orizzonte altri due derby per i biancorossi: mercoledì 13 settembre in trasferta proprio con UEB Gesteco Cividale e venerdì 15 in casa l’APU Udine (Gruppo E).

Pallacanestro Trieste takes the first of the derby matches in this long season. Cividale puts up a fight, spurred on by an enthusiastic crowd, and narrows the gap in the final quarter with a series of dangerous three-pointers. However, a superb Filloy (awarded as MVP), a resolute Brooks, and a stellar Candussi (earning him the top scorer award) lead Trieste to an important victory.
Trieste started with the same starting lineup as in the game against Forlì: Brooks, Filloy, Deangeli, Ferrero, Candussi. Brooks wasted no time, scoring the first two points. Cividale’s three-pointer signaled that the match was still wide open, but Filloy and Candussi responded with a three-pointer each (3-7). Cividale narrowed the gap with another three-pointer, but Trieste extended their lead with Brooks, reaching a six-point advantage (6-12) midway through the first quarter. Cividale tried to get back into the game, but Trieste maintained their lead, leading 13-19. Candussi scored a three-pointer, igniting the enthusiasm of the passionate white and red fans in the stands. Filloy sank his usual three-pointer at the buzzer, allowing Trieste to close the first quarter with an eleven-point lead (13-24).
The second quarter began with Candussi scoring both under the basket and from beyond the arc. The white and red team extended their lead to 13-30. Brooks added two more points, but Furin responded for Cividale. The game experienced a scoring drought halfway through the quarter, with both teams struggling to find the winning basket. Rota broke the deadlock with a three-pointer, revitalizing Cividale. Candussi returned to the free-throw line, making both shots this time. Cividale returned to the offensive, and Rota made two free throws. Filloy quickly extinguished the opponent’s enthusiasm with two points. Cividale had more free throws, with Furin making only one. Candussi, on the other hand, made both, and Trieste approached halftime with a lead. Balladino’s three-pointer reignited Cividale, but Brooks responded immediately under the basket. Ferrero joined the free-throw parade, making three out of three. Ferrari scored a three-pointer for the Eagles, showing their determination. It was once again Balladino with a three-pointer from long range, reigniting the match. Cividale closed the gap again, and the halftime score was 35-46 in favor of Trieste.
Candussi opened the third quarter once more. Marangon made both of his free throws. Deangeli responded with a three-pointer. Vildera made one of two free throws, as did Rota for Cividale. Vildera scored two more points, and Marangon responded with a three-pointer. Candussi scored again (two points), but Cividale was fired up with Mani’s three-pointer. Ferrero added another three-pointer for Trieste, restoring the lead. Dell’Agnello made one of two free throws, while Brooks extended the lead with a three-pointer. Miani responded under the basket, making the game more exciting. With a little over three minutes left in the quarter, Trieste was ahead 52-66. Miani’s free throws cut the deficit by two points. Cividale’s number 4 repeated with another three-pointer, bringing them within nine points. Filloy’s two points extended the lead, but Miani was hot, hitting another three-pointer. Candussi’s free throws allowed his team to breathe. The third quarter ended 61-70 in favor of Trieste.
The fourth quarter opened with Miani scoring once again. Cividale’s number 4 repeated with a three-pointer, bringing them back into the game. Redivo brought Cividale very close, and the game was still up for grabs until they took the lead (71-70). Candussi made one of two free throws, bringing Trieste within one point. Ferrero put his team ahead under the basket, and Miani closed the gap further, adding one more point from the free-throw line. Brooks scored two points, and Trieste tried to stay in the game. Filloy’s three-pointer put the result back into question with just over four minutes left, repeating shortly after. The match was fiercely contested between the two teams, and the score remained tight. Brooks made two points from the free-throw line, giving his team some breathing room. However, Dell’Agnello wasn’t giving up: Cividale came back within one point. Candussi’s three-pointer extended the white and red team’s lead by four points, and with his 34 total points, he secured the Memorial for Coach Christian’s boys. The final score was 86-90 for Trieste, and there was a great celebration among the Trieste fans in the stands.
The first derby of the season concluded an intense week of work for Coach Christian and his staff, starting with the victorious friendly match against the Kapfenberg Bulls in Monfalcone on Tuesday. These preseason events were meant to prepare the team for the upcoming official Supercoppa matches, which will feature two more derbies for the white and red team: an away game against UEB Gesteco Cividale on Wednesday, September 13, and a home game against APU Udine (Group E) on Friday, September 15.
