Dalla sala stampa del PalaTrieste, coach Jamion Christian presenta la trasferta con la UCC Assigeco Piacenza, in programma per domani, mercoledì 1 novembre, alle ore 20.30. Di seguito le sue dichiarazioni.
Due partite in tre giorni rappresentano un impegno veramente intenso. Come vi siete preparati per arrivare pronti per domani?
“Abbiamo tanta voglia di scendere in campo di nuovo. Pensavamo di fare un passo in avanti contro Verona l’altra sera, ma non ci siamo riusciti. Abbiamo bisogno di farlo ancora più grande con Piacenza domani. Avremo di fronte una squadra molto forte, giocano ad un ritmo molto elevato. Entrambe le squadre hanno molta fame di portare a casa la vittoria”.
La performance di Verona ha lasciato degli effetti sul morale della squadra? Come si stanno approcciando i giocatori a questa sfida?
“Il morale della squadra e l’approccio dei giocatori a queste sfide sono buoni. Abbiamo un gruppo di professionisti straordinario in questo spogliatoio che comprende questo processo. Molti di loro si sono trovati in questa situazione in passato, lottando con una squadra per migliorare durante l’anno. Ci sentiamo davvero in una fase cruciale adesso, è qui che si impara tutto sulla propria squadra, si sviluppa il carattere e si costruisce la tenacia. Quindi, stiamo cercando di imparare tutto ciò che possiamo in questi momenti, così da poter dare il meglio per il resto della stagione. È stata una partita difficile contro Verona, ma abbiamo imparato molto e migliorato in diversi aspetti”.

“Nessuno vuole fare bene più di noi e dei nostri giocatori. Non ho mai incontrato un gruppo di persone più impegnate e connesse, specialmente in queste settimane davvero difficili. Dobbiamo essere la nostra versione migliore, creando opportunità gli uni per gli altri, stando uniti in difesa e sapendo giocare su entrambi i lati del campo. Siamo contenti del rapido cambiamento perché Piacenza è una squadra davvero forte e determinata. Dovremo dare il massimo e farlo insieme per uscire vittoriosi in trasferta”.
Su cosa dovrebbe essere concentrata Trieste riguardo agli avversari, e cosa deve fare per assicurarsi la vittoria e superare le ultime tre sconfitte?
“Essere consapevoli di questo processo e di come lo stiamo vivendo, imparando cosa significa vincere e come ci si sente a vincere con il nostro stile di gioco in cui crediamo. Continuare a imparare, a essere a proprio agio nel cercare tiri di qualità, creandone di buoni e giocando con determinazione su entrambi i lati del campo. All’inizio avevamo avuto successo facendo questo, abbiamo faticato nelle ultime settimane. Dobbiamo ritrovare quella fiducia e penso che il nostro futuro sarà brillante. Dobbiamo solo imparare dai momenti più difficili”.

Coach, two matches in three days are a truly intense commitment. How have you prepared to arrive ready for tomorrow?
“We’re excited to get out and play again. Though we took a step forward against Verona the other night, we need to take a bigger step forward here. It’s a very good Piacenza team; they play at such a fast tempo. So, just getting our team comfortable to be ready to defend a lot of possessions. Both teams are really hungry”.
Did Verona’s performance leave any lingering effects on the team’s morale? How are the players approaching this challenge?
“On the team’s morale and how the players are approaching these challenges: It’s great. We’ve got a great group of professionals in that locker room who understand this process. Many of them have been in this situation before, fighting with a team to improve throughout the year. Our morale is high; our spirit is in a great place. A lot of credit goes to our players. We really feel like we’re in the pit right now, and this is where you learn everything about your team, develop your character, and build your competitive toughness. So, we’re trying to learn everything we can in these moments so we can go out and play our very best for the rest of the season. It was a tough matchup against Verona, but we learned a lot and got better in a lot of different areas. We need to carry over those things into the performance against the rest of the season”.
What have you told your players to ensure they are at their best for the match against Piacenza?
“No one wants to get it right more than us and our players. I’ve never been around a more committed, connected group of people, especially through what’s been a really tough few weeks. We’ve got to be our best version of ourselves, and that’s creating for one another, being connected on defense, and really being able to play on both sides of the ball. We’re excited about the short turnaround because Piacenza is a really good team and a really hungry team. We’re going to need to play our very best and do it together to come out with a victory on the road”.
What should Trieste be mindful of about the opponents, and what does Trieste need to do to secure the win and move past the last three losses?
“Being mindful of this process and how we’re experiencing it, learning what it looks like to win, and what it feels like to win with our style of play that we believe in. Just continue to learn that, being comfortable taking really good shots, creating good shots, and playing with toughness on both ends of the floor. We did that, and had some success earlier doing that, but we struggled in the last few weeks. However, if we can learn what we need to and create the way we’re supposed to, again, I think our future is going to be great. We just have to learn in the toughest moments”.
